Anna Maria Island Fishing Charters April 10th-30th 2017 Report

Well we went from a late winter, straight to summer like conditions on the water. During this reporting period bait has been sporadic as it is moving around a lot. Some days bait is very plentiful (Picture) other days we are struggling to get enough bait to fish with, but I always find a way to get the job done! The bite has been

April winds bring May flowers...

During the first week of April we seen strong winds all week, starting out of the south at 20-25 knots then ending the week with a strong 20-25 knot winds out of the north as a cool front passed over our area.  During the first part of the week fishing was steady with the South wind and the cool front approaching. The end of the week, when the front finally passed over, left the biting a lot tougher as high pressure from the cool...

Cold to HOT...

We started the second week of March with the remits of a significant cold front that pushed though the region, leaving us water water temperatures in the high 50's. The week prior we had water temperatures in the mid to high 70's, so we have a 20 degree temperature drop which slowed down the Snook, Redfish, and Trout bite. We ended up heading for some deeper water to target Sheepshead and...

Catching Convicts (AKA Sheephead)...

Sorry its been a couple months since my last report, I commercial fish for Mullet in the months of December and January every year. Well lets start out with how well the commercial mullet fishing season was.  This mullet season was better than the 2015 season, but still was slower than average. Record high temperatures in December left the fish feeling confused and left me thinking it was July or August as pools of sweat dripped from...

Anna Maria Island Fishing Charters August 1st - 14th Report

Well, the past two weeks we have seen a low pressure system that sat on top of Anna Maria Island and Florida for six days straight. The low pressure system brought daily rain and dropped the water temperature considerably in some areas. In most of the areas I fish the water temperature went from the mid 80's to around 78 degrees.  I was able to get in most of my trips this past week...

Anna Maria Island Fishing Charters June 20th - July 2nd Report

It's been a great start to the summer fishing season. There is plenty of larger bait still around and lots of smaller (fry) bait showing up on all the shallow grass flats from Sarasota to Anna Maria Island. The Tarpon bite has been pretty disappointing over the past couple weeks. Most of the guides that I have been talking too have said its the toughest...

Now let talk about some fishing. The fishing has remained pretty strong except for a late season cold front we had push through the area early last week. Anna Maria Island Fishing Charters March 2015 Fishing Report

Anna Maria Island Fishing Charters March 2015 Fishing Report

March was on fire...until we had a late season cold front the last week in March that knocked the water temperature from the high 70's  to the mid 60's . Fishing was tough after the cold front and slowly picked back up to end the month strong. Most days clients would catch 20-30 Snook ranging 22"-25". On almost all of the trips clients went home with keeper Redfish and Trout

Mid March 2015

Early March has proven to be great fishing. While we had to dance around some late season cold fronts fishing has still been very productive. On all of our fishing trips we have been able to land 30+ fish, with some days being more Redfish and other days more Snook with mixed in Trout. The water temperature is quickly approaching 78 degrees and soon we will see the migration of several different species (including Tarpon) from South to North with a lot of fish making the lower part of Tampa Bay their summer home. Larger (Female) Snook are slowly making their way out of the rivers and backwaters for the long journey to the beaches and passes to start spawning over the next couple months. Feburary 2015

The bite has been pretty good considering the late season cold fronts and the low water temperatures. We have been getting bait and the snook and redfish have been biting pretty good. Several oversize redfish have been caught by clients with the largest being 32". We have been able to limit out on redfish on most trips. March looks like the water temperature will rise quickly along with the bite. Snook season opens March 1st so book your trip today. September 2014

With water temperatures dropping into the low 80′s you can tell that fall is right around the corner. The end of September has seen an above average amount of rain which has not slowed down the fishing. Bait is plentifully around the beach near Anna Maria Island and some bait can be found on the flats near the mouth of the Manatee River along with the flats around the Intercostal water ways. The Redfish bite has been outstanding with most clients catching 20 plus fish a trip. The opening month of Snook season has been productive with several of our clients landing keeper size Snook, but most of our clients are choosing to let them go so one day they will be a trophy fish.  The Redfish and Snook bite will continue to be productive through October with Snook moving towards the Rivers and back waters. If you are looking to book your fishing trip and are staying around Anna Maria Island ,Holmes Beach, Bradenton Beach, Bradenton, or surrounding areas give Capt. Summer is in full effect. The water temperature is hovering around the upper 80′s and as hot as the water has been the bite is still strong. We have been catching Mangrove snapper, Trout, and Snook.
