Anna Maria Island Fishing Charters July 4th-16th Report

Summer heat is in full effect...

Summer is here to stay for the next couple months, which means the small bait has shown up. We have all the small bait (pilchards) you want on the flats around Anna Maria Island, just make sure you are throwing a 1/4" mesh net or you will have a Christmas tree of bait on your hands and a lot of clean up.  The Trout fishing has still been strong and a lot of smaller Trout have been showing up and sometimes its hard to get the bigger Trout to bite before the smaller ones grab your hook. The Mangrove Snapper bite inshore has really picked up over the past two weeks. When we are targeting them we are using 1/0 hooks and 20 lb leader, as these fish are smart and catch on really quickly to heavier tackle. While we are fishing for Snapper we have been doing well with Spanish Mackerel first thing in the mornings. The Snook bite has been starting to slow down as the water heats up. We have been doing better during the strongest tide cycles with Snook and Redfish. More and more Redfish are slowing starting to show up, right now they are pretty spread out over large grass flats and soon they should start to group together for a better target approach to these fish. If you are looking to stay on Anna Maria Island or the surrounding areas check of Island Real Estate for all your accommodation needs.
